SAUDI ARABIA WORKS TO PROTECT FOOD FROM INTENTIONAL CONTAMINATION
The Saudi Food and Drug Authority is currently working on finalizing the “food protection” system with the aim of applying a proactive approach to protect it from intentional contamination that may aim to cause great and widespread harm to public health .
The authority has prepared an integrated guide explaining the protection plan, the importance of each one, how to conduct an assessment to identify the most important weaknesses and record keeping mechanism.
The guide ensures compliance with large facilities that have 250 employees or more or annual revenues of more than 200 million riyals as of 1-6-2022 and medium-sized enterprises that achieve revenues ranging between 40-200 million riyals as of 1-1 -2023 and small businesses from 1-6-2023,
The evaluation aims to reduce serious weaknesses related to the potential intentional contamination of food and to identify control measures for each step.
The supervisors of implementation are required to have a scientific degree in one of the related disciplines (food science, food processing, manufacturing technology, production engineering, veterinary medicine, and agricultural sciences).
