Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan Sign Digital Partnership Agreement

Saudi Arabia and Uzbekistan signed an agreement to enhance cooperation in the fields of telecommunications and advanced technologies, reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

On Wednesday, the Saudi Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Abdullah Al-Swaha, met with the Uzbek Minister of Digital Technologies, Sherzod Shermatov, in Riyadh.

During their meeting, both ministers explored expanding partnership opportunities in telecommunications and advanced technologies, as well as empowering entrepreneurs and supporting innovation to achieve sustainable digital economic growth.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the Internet Governance Forum (IGF). After the meeting, both sides signed a strategic agreement that aims to strengthen partnership and exchange expertise in the fields of telecommunications and information technology (IT).

Furthermore, the agreement focuses on enhancing the partnership between Saudi Arabia and Uzbekistan in the fields of technology and digital transformation, in order to achieve economic development.

It aims to exchange knowledge and best practices in the fields of artificial intelligence (AI), digital infrastructure, fifth and sixth-generation technologies, cloud computing, data centers, and tech entrepreneurship.

Moreover, the agreement aims to boost digital investment, and exchange expertise and policies to enhance digital skills. It also seeks to attract national companies to establish regional headquarters in Uzbekistan, in collaboration with technology and innovation hubs, to provide high-quality services in telecommunications and IT sectors.

The 19th annual meeting of the IGF is taking place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from December 15-19, 2024. Under the theme Building Our Multistakeholder Digital Future, the IGF features over 300 different sessions focused on various digital public policy issues.

It focuses on 4 main thematic tracks: Harnessing innovation and balancing risks in the digital space; enhancing the digital contribution to peace, development, and sustainability; advancing human rights and inclusion in the digital age; and improving digital governance for the Internet We Want.
