The Saudi Ministry of Sports announced that the Kingdom will host the World Rally Championship (WRC) for the first time, under the name “Saudi Rally,” reported Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
WRC has signed a 10-year agreement starting in 2025 with Saudi Arabia during Rally Italy in Sardinia, to revive the world championship in the Middle East since Jordan was last on the calendar in 2011.
The Saudi Automobile and Motorcycle Federation (SAMF) and Saudi Motorsport Company (SMC) have organized a special ceremony to celebrate the newly signed deal.
“The arrival of another prestigious global racing series to the Kingdom signifies that our country has become a preferred destination for sports and athletes in various disciplines, including motorsports.” said Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki bin Faisal, Minister of Sports and President of the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee (SOPC).
The event saw the convergence of President of SAMF and SMC, Saudi Minister of Sports, and the Director-General of the WRC, Jona Siebel.
Prince Abdulaziz has commended the efforts made to host the WRC, confirming that hosting such events fosters the Kingdom’s position as a pioneering destination for all worldwide events.
“We are delighted to welcome the WRC to the array of global sports events that have made Saudi Arabia a preferred and ideal destination, thanks to the generous support of our wise leadership,” said Prince Abdulaziz.
The Minister highlighted that this landmark achievement adds to a list of other accomplishments such as Formula 1, Formula E, Extreme E races, and the Dakar Rally, marking another success in turning Saudi Vision 2030 into reality.
