Saudi Arabia to Lead 50th Session of Tropical Cyclone Committee in Bahrain
Saudi Arabia, represented by the National Meteorological Center, will chair the Tropical Cyclone Committee for Asia and the Pacific.
The 50th session of the committee will be held tomorrow, Tuesday, in Manama, Bahrain, according to SABQ Online Newspaper.
Saudi Arabia’s Role, Contributions
The Kingdom’s continuous leadership of the committee, unanimously agreed upon by the member states, reflects its efforts and expertise in meteorology at both regional and international levels.
Notably, Saudi Arabia has played a significant role in monitoring tropical conditions in the Arabian Sea, keeping track of developments, and issuing timely alerts.
Saudi Arabia’s Position in WMO
As a key member of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), Saudi Arabia plays a significant role in the region.
Additionally, it’s part of the WMO’s Executive Office and runs the Jeddah regional center, coordinating meteorological information among 14 Asia-Pacific countries.
Consequently, the Kingdom houses a top-tier weather forecasting center, featuring advanced technology and expert staff, providing extensive meteorological services.
Committee Membership, Goals
Moreover, the committee includes 14 countries: Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, UAE, Qatar, Oman, Yemen, India, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Maldives, Thailand, Iran, and Pakistan.
Its goals are to improve information sharing and cyclone monitoring accuracy, furthermore, enhance forecasting, and provide deeper climate analysis. Therefore, these efforts aim to help member countries better understand and manage weather-related risks.
