Saudi Arabia Ranks Second in G20 for ICT Development Index 2023

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has announced that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has achieved second place among the G20 nations in the 2023 ICT Development Index (IDI). Accordingly, the Kingdom has marked its advancement by ten positions within the group in the index.

Saudi Arabia’s Leap in ICT Development

KSA’s significant leap in the ICT Development Index signals the robust ICT infrastructure and availability. It also signals the kingdom’s impact of its services. This jump underscores the direct effect of ICT on the growth and evolution of the national digital economy. It also reflects the Kingdom’s attraction for investment and its support for expanding the ICT market.

Infrastructure and Economic Growth

The index highlights Saudi Arabia’s substantial investment in ICT infrastructure and services, aiming for positive effects on economic growth and opportunity creation. With the largest and fastest-growing communications market in the Middle East and North Africa, KSA also boasts an advanced and continually updating digital infrastructure. Internet penetration in Saudi Arabia stands impressively at 99%.

Vision 2030 and Digital Advancement

Saudi Arabia 2030 Vision incorporates direct programs to achieve international leadership in digital progress. With over 93 billion riyals invested in digital infrastructure in the last six years, the Kingdom aims to lead and continue achieving international milestones.

Methodology of the ICT Development Index

The IDI tracks the economies of 169 countries to measure progress in ICT services through various sub-indicators. These indicators focus on comprehensive and effective communication to gauge the strength of infrastructure and secure and efficient connectivity for all.
