Saudi Arabia announced on Sunday that it had successfully intercepted three drones after they breached the Kingdom’s airspace from Iraq, according to Arab News.
The Kingdom’s Defense Ministry spokesman Major General Turki Al-Maliki affirmed that Saudi Arabia would undertake all necessary operational measures to counter any attempt to undermine its sovereignty or threaten its security.
Al-Maliki further noted that the Kingdom would also take all required measures to safeguard the security and safety of citizens and residents across Saudi territory.
On February 28, the United States and Israel launched strikes on Iran, targeting its leadership and triggering a new conflict in the Middle East.
Iran has been responding with a retaliatory counterattack in Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi as a retaliatory move, while launching barrages of missiles and drones toward Israel.
The conflict has spread across the Middle East, leaving thousands dead, triggering unprecedented disruptions to energy supplies especially after the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
Since the outbreak of the war, both Tehran and Washington remain locked in a standoff over the Strait of Hormuz, as Iran tightens its control over maritime traffic while the United States continues to enforce a blockade on Iranian ports.
Hostilities linked to the Iran conflict have largely subsided since a ceasefire took effect in April.
However, drones have continued to be launched from Iraqi territory toward Gulf states.
