Saudi Arabia Condemns Attacks on Civilians in Sudan’s El-Fasher

Saudi Arabia has denounced an attack that targeted a displacement shelter in the city of El-Fasher in western Sudan.

In a statement on Saturday, the Saudi Foreign Ministry expressed the Kingdom’s condemnation and denunciation of “the heinous attack that targeted a shelter for displaced persons in El-Fasher.”

The statement reiterated Saudi Arabia’s rejection of violence against civilians, stressing the urgency of an immediate cessation of the war in Sudan.

Furthermore, the Kingdom underscored the importance of preserving Sudan’s unity and institutions and avoiding further suffering and destruction for its people.

The statement also called for protecting civilians in accordance with the commitments outlined in the Jeddah Declaration of Commitment to Protect the Civilians of Sudan, signed on May 11, 2023.

On Saturday, a displacement camp in El-Fasher, the North Darfur state capital, was hit by a drone and artillery attack, which killed at least 60 people, reported AFP.

The resistance committee for El-Fasher accused the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of targeting the Dar al-Arqam displacement center, located within a university, killing children, women and the elderly “in cold blood.”

“The situation has gone beyond disaster and genocide inside the city, and the world remains silent,” the committee said.

The war in Sudan broke out in April 2023, splitting the country in two. The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) controls the center, north and east, while the RSF holds almost all of the western Darfur region and parts of Kordofan.

Each side has declared a government, raising concerns over creating a permanent division in Sudan.

In March 2025, the SAF regained control over most parts of the Sudanese capital Khartoum. Meanwhile, the RSF has intensified its attacks on El-Fasher – the only state capital in Darfur it does not control – to capture the city and solidify its control over the entire Darfur region.
