Moreover, Saudi Arabia emphasized the urgent need for ensuring the safety of humanitarian and relief workers. It also stressed the need for halting attacks against civilians and complying with the commitments of the Jeddah Declaration, signed in May 2023, particularly protecting civilians in Sudan.

The Kingdom also extended its condolences to the families of the victims and wished speedy recovery for the injured, the statement added.

On Friday, more than 100 people, including 20 children, are feared dead in Sudan after the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) launched “coordinated ground and aerial assaults” on El-Fasher and the Zamzam and Abu Shouk displacement camps, France 24 reported citing the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

The RSF are at war with the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) since April 2023. Last month, the SAF recaptured the capital city of Khartoum. Since then, the RSF intensified their attacks on El-Fasher, the only state capital in Darfur they do not control.
