Reynad Al-Hussein Receives World’s Best Female Inventor
Academic Achievements, Global Recognition
Saudi student Reynad Al-Hussein, studying medicine at King Saud University, was awarded the title of Best Invention in the World in 2020.
Academic Achievements, Global Recognition
Reynad Al-Hussein also earned three gold medals in global invention competitions. These include a gold medal at the International Exhibition of Inventions and Innovations in Malaysia in 2019.
The list of her awards also include gold prize at the Korea International Olympiad as the best invention globally in 2020, and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) trophy for the best invention worldwide in 2020.
Additionally, she received the gold prize at the OCIIP World Competition held in Africa in 2020.
Innovative Device for Deaf
In an interview with Al Ekhbariya channel, Al-Hussein detailed her invention. Firstly, she created a device to assist the deaf, featuring sensors that recognize external sounds, translate them, and display the information on a screen.
This allows deaf individuals to understand external sounds and identify their sources. Noting that many deaf people struggle with reading and writing, she incorporated colors and images into her invention.
Consequently, the device uses three colors—red, orange, and yellow—each representing a specific category of crucial sounds, and includes images representing the sound source. It also indicates the sound source’s proximity.
Inspiration Behind Invention
Al-Hussein was motivated to invent this device after reading a news article about a deaf person killed by the American police, who mistakenly thought he was trying to flee when he failed to hear their commands to stop.
This tragic incident spurred her to develop a solution to prevent such occurrences.
Impact, Future Aspirations
She highlighted that her invention helps 466 million deaf people worldwide to drive cars in all countries.
She makes them aware of external sounds through sight, thereby reducing risks.
Al-Hussein emphasized the importance of science, reading, and exploration from a young age. Participating in the Talent Program, she achieved high scores and joined advanced talent programs.
This paved the way for her participation in international competitions, where she excelled at the national level.
she represented Saudi Arabia internationally. After joining the College of Medicine at King Saud University, she was among the top students for her exceptional talent.
