Saudi Arabia, GCC Denounce Iranian Attacks on Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan

Saudi Arabia has condemned in the strongest terms the blatant Iranian attacks and flagrant violations of the sovereignty of Bahrain, Kuwait, and Jordan.

Early Wednesday, air raid sirens blared across Bahrain, Kuwait, and Jordan as authorities announced they were intercepting drones and ballistic missiles launched from Iran.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) said it had launched strikes against US bases in Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan, in response to US strikes on Iran over the downing of a US Apache helicopter.

Saudi Denunciation

In response to the escalation, the Saudi Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the Kingdom considers the attacks against Bahrain, Kuwait, and Jordan a “threat to the security and safety of their territories and airspace.”

“The Kingdom affirms that the continuation of these attacks threatens regional and international security and undermines efforts aimed at de-escalation and the restoration of security and stability in the region,” the statement noted.

Furthermore, Saudi Arabia reaffirmed its full solidarity with the three brotherly nations, reiterating its support for whatever measures they take to safeguard their sovereignty, security, stability, and the safety of their citizens and residents.

GCC Support

Echoing a similar stance, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) strongly condemned the brutal Iranian attacks against Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan as a “blatant aggression against the sovereignty of states, the security of their peoples and the safety of their territories.”

In a statement following its 167th meeting in Manama, the GCC Ministerial Council emphasized that these hostile acts “do not serve any understanding or rapprochement.”

It also expressed its firm support for Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan, affirming their right to defend themselves, individually and collectively, and to respond to this aggression by all legitimate means.

“The Council holds Iran fully responsible for these acts and their grave repercussions on the security of the region, international navigation and energy supplies, and demands their immediate cessation and a complete end to any targeting of the GCC states, their interests and their citizens,” the statement said.

The Council concluded its statement by noting that continued aggression will only lead to further isolation, “while the door to understanding remains open to those who choose the language of wisdom and good neighborliness.”
