Kuwait Summons Iran’s Envoy, Expels Two Diplomats over Drone, Missile Attacks

Kuwait has summoned Iran’s envoy and declared two other diplomats persona non grata, in response to Iranian drone and missile attacks that targeted several of the country’s civilian and vital facilities.

The Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry on Wednesday issued a statement saying it summoned the Acting Chargé d’Affaires at the Iranian Embassy and handed him an official protest note regarding continuous Iranian aggressions.

It added that the note also included a decision to reduce the number of Iranian embassy staff in Kuwait and declare two members of the Iranian diplomatic mission persona non grata, demanding their departure within a maximum of 24 hours.

The Foreign Ministry noted that this decision comes in response to continued brutal Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks, in flagrant violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Kuwait, the UN Charter, the principles of international law, and Security Council Resolution 2817.

Early Wednesday, an Iranian drone and missile attack targeted civilian and vital facilities, including Kuwait International Airport and diplomatic missions, killing one person and wounding more than 60 others.

In light of this, the Foreign Ministry reiterated Kuwait’s strong denunciation of such heinous Iranian attacks, emphasizing the country’s rejection of the use of its territory or airspace for any hostile acts against any country.

It also stressed Kuwait‘s full and inherent right to self-defense, and to take all necessary measures to safeguard its sovereignty, preserve its security, and protect its territory, airspace, citizens, and residents against these systematic hostile practices, in accordance with international law.
