President Putin arrives in Tehran to attend the Russian-Iranian-Turkish summit
Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Tehran today (Tuesday), according to Iranian official media, to attend a meeting between Iran, Russia, and Turkey.
Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi both met with President Putin. Putin has traveled abroad twice since the beginning of the Ukraine War in February.
President Putin stated, “Relations between the two nations are expanding at a good speed and we can already claim record levels of commerce,” during his meeting with President Raisi in Tehran. The security and stability of the area will benefit from my visit to Tehran. The resolution of the Syrian conflict has been greatly helped by Russia and Iran.
The visit of the Russian president, according to Raisi, might mark a “turning point for future collaboration” between the two nations.
Putin travels to Iran at the same time as Erdogan travels to Turkey. To negotiate a deal aimed at restarting Ukraine’s grain exports from the Black Sea, the two parties will meet in Tehran.
The Syrian settlement process under the Astana framework, supported by Russia, Turkey, and Iran, would be the focus of attention during President Putin’s visit to Tehran, according to a statement from the Russian presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov earlier.
A draught of a joint statement between Putin, Erdogan, and Raisi will be signed following their meeting in Tehran, according to the Russian President’s advisor Yury Ushakov.
Additionally, Mikhail Bogdanov, the deputy foreign minister of Russia, could not completely rule out the possibility that discussions between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad would occur following Putin’s trip to Iran.
According to Turkish media, Erdogan plans to discuss with Putin the outcomes of the four-way conference on the subject of Ukrainian grain exports in Tehran.
A military attack on Syria will destabilize the area, the Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei reportedly told Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Iranian state television.
Khamenei reportedly said, “Any military action on Syria will hurt the region and assist the terrorists,” according to the article.
