Saudi Arabia’s General Directorate of Passports recently issued crucial new travel guidance, urging all citizens to secure their passports and verify essential validity requirements before starting any international travel. Furthermore, this vital advisory arrives right before the peak summer travel period, specifically emphasizing the necessity to safeguard documents and actively prevent practices that could ultimately delay or halt travel plans.
The directorate firmly urged citizens to maintain passport security at all times, explicitly warning travelers against damage, loss, neglect, pawning, or any form of misuse of this critical document. Saudi travelers must proactively store passports in protected locations and meticulously verify the documents remain in good condition immediately before departing the Kingdom.

Moreover, the agency strongly stressed the critical importance of checking minimum passport validity not only for the main citizen but also for all traveling companions before booking any trip. Citizens require passport validity for a minimum of three months when journeying to fellow Arab countries, whereas six months validity is necessary for all other international destinations.
However, for travel exclusively within the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, citizens maintain the option to carry either their valid passport or their national identity card. The directorate specifically clarified that the digital national identity card, which is readily available on the Absher and Tawakkalna platforms, does not permit any travel outside the Kingdom.
Consequently, the family registration document also remains strictly invalid for use as a primary travel credential for international departures.
Ultimately, this comprehensive advisory forms a crucial part of the Kingdom’s ongoing efforts to strengthen overall travel readiness and substantially reduce disruptions at various border points. This proactive measure ensures that every Saudi citizen effectively complies with all necessary regional and international entry requirements.
