Netanyahu Announces Re-Election Run for 2026, Expresses Confidence in Victory
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Saturday that he would run for office in November 2026, noting confidence in winning the elections, according to AFP.
Netanyahu affirmed his intention to seek re-election during an interview on the right-wing Channel 14.
When pressed on whether he anticipated to secure another term, he replied: “Yes.”
As leader of Likud, Israel’s dominant right-wing party, Netanyahu is Israel’s longest-serving prime minister. He held office for more than 18 years in total, across numerous terms since 1996.
Netanyahu’s party secured 32 seats in the Knesset during the last elections.
Meanwhile, its ultra-Orthodox partners captured 18, and the far-right Religious Zionism alliance won 14.
The PM’s current term commenced amid widespread turmoil which triggered months of mass demonstrations that saw tens of thousands of Israelis taking to the streets almost daily.
This criticism has increased since the beginning of Gaza War in October 2023.
Netanyahu has faced mounting pressure from families of hostages over his way of managing the war with Hamas.
