Minister of Foreign Affairs to Attend EU-GCC Forum on Security

The Minister of Foreign Affairs Faisal bin Farhan has arrived in Luxembourg to participate in the high-level forum on security and regional cooperation between the Gulf states and the European Union. The EU-GCC forum on security and cooperation will be held Monday, in Luxembourg. Foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and the European Union will attend the forum.

Jassim Al-Budaiwi, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, said that EU-GCC forum on security and cooperation is an opportunity to enhance dialogue between the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and the European Union, and to continue strengthening coordination on issues related to regional and global stability and security.

Al-Budaiwi stressed that the two sides working together to strengthen bilateral relations and develop new cooperation mechanisms will contribute to unifying viewpoints between the GCC countries and the European Union on many issues and files.

During a previous GCC session, Al-Budaiwi talked about the pillars of the GCC vision for regional security. He said that the pillars include coordinating positions among member states and adopting unified positions on regional and international issues. These pillars are based on principles of respecting countries’ sovereignty and non-interference in their affairs.

He also added that military and security integration among GCC countries has fostered stability. Moreover, it transformed the region into a center for culture and science.
