The Saudi General Sport Authority revealed recently some details related to the Dakar Rally, which Saudi Arabia will host for the first time on the fifth of January 2020.
The establishment of this desert rally, the most famous in the next five years in the Kingdom, as part of a Saudi effort to increase sporting activities, within the framework of the “Vision 2030” through which Saudi Arabia seeks to diversify sources of income and reduce dependence on oil as a main source of public revenue.
The rally starts from Jeddah on the Red Sea in western Saudi Arabia, all the way to Qiddiya, and extends over 12 stages over a distance of more than 75,000 km from the desert of the Kingdom.
Participants will cross from Jeddah to the north through the Red Sea project of the future city of “Neum”, then pass through the sandy hills of Hail on the road that descends towards Riyadh, after which the rally heads towards the west in the middle of the Kingdom’s desert, before turning back and moving east to Al-Ahsa Governorate.
