Kings’ and Princes’ Cups Festival Opens with Thrilling Races in Riyadh

The Kings’ and Princes’ Cups Horse Racing Festival kicked off on December 26 at Riyadh’s King Abdulaziz Racecourse, according to the Saudi Press Agency.

The opening night spotlighted the Prince Naif bin Abdulaziz Cup (Grade 2 – Local), a 1,600‑meter contest for three‑year‑olds with a total prize pool of SAR700,000.

The excitement continued with the Prince Badr bin Abdulaziz Cup for mares (Grade 2 – Local), a 1,800‑meter contest offering a SAR500,000 purse.

This race was followed by the Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Cup for mares (Grade 2 – Local), a 2,000‑meter challenge worth SAR700,000.

The festival reached its climax with the King Abdullah Cup (Grade 1 – Local), a 1,600‑meter race for two‑year‑olds, carrying a prize of SAR800,000.

The event resumes today with a lineup of high-profile races beginning with the Imam Mohammed bin Saud Cup over 1,200 meters.

The program also features the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Sword (Group 3 – Local), a 1,600‑meter challenge reserved for Arabian horses.

Then, the spotlight turns to the King Fahd bin Abdulaziz Cup (Group 1 – Local), a 1,600‑meter challenge for two‑year‑old mares.

Moreover, the eighth race brings the King Khalid bin Abdulaziz Cup (Group 1 – Local), a 1,800‑meter contest, followed by the King Faisal Cup over 1,600 meters.

Interestingly, the festival will draw to a close with the prestigious King Saud Cup over 2,000 meters.
