Unearthing Ancient Relics

Approximately 25,000 archaeological items have been unearthed, providing insights into the Islamic civilization spanning back to the 7th and 8th centuries AD.

Sites of Significance

Among the notable sites are the Mosque of Uthman ibn Affan, the Shuna Archaeological Site, and sections of the eastern trench and the northern wall. These sites have been meticulously excavated as part of the Antiquities Project under the auspices of the Historical Jeddah program.

Diverse Artefacts

The excavation efforts, commencing in November 2020, have yielded a diverse array of artifacts. These include pottery, shells, metals, construction materials, and animal bones, providing a glimpse into various aspects of daily life during ancient times.

Insights from Mosque of Uthman ibn Affan

Studies conducted at the Mosque of Uthman ibn Affan have revealed artifacts dating back to the early Islamic centuries. Additionally, among these discoveries are a range of ceramic vessels and high-quality porcelain pieces.

Revelations at Shuna Archaeological Site

The Shuna Archaeological Site has offered significant insights into Jeddah’s architectural evolution. Moreover, the remains found here date back to at least the 13th Islamic century, with evidence suggesting even earlier settlements from the 10th Islamic century.

Discoveries at Kaddah Site

Excavations at the Kaddah Site, also known as Bab Makkah, have unearthed sections of the eastern trench.
