The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) held a high-level event alongside COP29 in Baku, reaffirming its commitment to bolstering climate-resilient water infrastructure throughout its member countries.
The IsDB pavilion at COP29 hosted an event titled “Unlocking Financing for Climate-Resilient Water Investments in IsDB Member Countries.” The event gathered government leaders, ministers, and key stakeholders. The goal was to tackle the pressing need for innovative financing to drive sustainable water solutions.
IsDB President Dr. Muhammad Al Jasser emphasized that the bank has invested more than $9 billion in water-related initiatives, encompassing water and sanitation infrastructure, hydropower, flood protection, and climate-resilient irrigation systems.
He highlighted that the IsDB’s approach extends beyond traditional financing, focusing on strengthening partnerships with governments, the private sector, and development agencies to drive innovation in climate-smart water management, research, and capacity building.
Moreover, participants at the event emphasized the need for focused efforts to secure financing, drive innovation, and develop infrastructure that addresses the needs of regions most vulnerable to climate change. They highlighted the importance of tackling these challenges to ensure long-term sustainability. In this context, they also discussed the IsDB’s strategies designed to build resilience and strengthen food and water security.
