ICAIRE Hosts Global Expert Forum on Managing Language Model Hallucination Risks

The International Center for Artificial Intelligence Research and Ethics (ICAIRE), operating under the auspices of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), convened an international expert meeting in Riyadh titled “Risk Management for Language Model Hallucinations.”

The forum brought together leading global experts in artificial intelligence (AI) to address one of the most pressing challenges in the field—managing the risks of “hallucinations” in large language models (LLMs), advanced AI systems designed to understand and generate human language.

Moreover, discussions centered on advanced approaches for identifying and mitigating these risks, emphasizing predictive methodologies that enhance the accuracy, reliability, and safety of AI-generated outputs in practical applications.

Participants explored a range of specialized topics, including reliability assessment prior to system enhancement, risk forecasting without additional model training, and the use of Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) techniques to safeguard real-world implementations. Case studies and applied frameworks were also presented, showcasing best practices for strengthening security and ethical governance in generative AI systems.
