Gulf Air Inaugurates First Flight to AlUla Airport
Today, Gulf Air, the national carrier of the Kingdom of Bahrain, inaugurated its first flight to AlUla International Airport, reported Saudi Press Agency.
The airline will operate a direct flight service between Bahrain and AlUla twice a week, starting from February 3 until March 6, and from April 10 to April 27, on board Gulf Air’s A320-Neo aircraft.
The Royal Commission for AlUla aims to connect air travel with various international and local destinations, making AlUla a global logistical hub in the northwest of the Kingdom.
Expansion of AlUla Airport
Last year, KSA started expanding AlUla Airport.
The expansion of AlUla International Airport is a strategic move in line with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030. The vision aims to open up the region to international tourism and investment. The designs for the expansion were unveiled by the Royal Commission for AlUla Governorate during the Future Investment Initiative (FII7) forum.
The designs portrayed a blend of modern architecture with nuances reflecting the ancient urban heritage of the AlUla region, ensuring harmony with its natural and cultural environment.
The expansion mainly focused on the construction of the second terminal. It is a crucial step following the Alula airport’s international status acquired in March 2021.
This initiative was part of a broader development strategy aiming at increasing the airport’s annual capacity.
Furthermore, the Royal Commission for AlUla successfully completed the second phase of Alula Airport expansion. It witnessed a 300% increase in the annual capacity alongside the reopening of several routes.
