
Dr. Fahad bin Ibrahim Alshathri, CEO of the General Authority for Competition (GAC), will head the authority’s delegation to the Seoul International Competition Forum 2025, scheduled for September 3 in the Republic of Korea.
According to a press release from GAC, this participation underscores the Kingdom’s commitment to promoting fair competition in digital markets and adapting to the fast-paced developments of the digital economy, in alignment with Saudi Vision 2030.
Saudi Arabia has witnessed remarkable digital progress, with internet penetration surpassing 99% and widespread adoption of electronic payment solutions. These advancements require modern, adaptable regulatory frameworks that foster competitiveness, efficiency, and market balance.

CEO’s Panel Participation
Dr. Alshathri will join a panel discussion titled “Specific Issues in the Digital Sector: E-Commerce and OTT Services.”
During the session, he will highlight GAC’s initiatives, including:
- Tackling anti-competitive practices in the food delivery sector.
- Assessing the impact of cross-border e-commerce on local retailers.
- Issuing a regulatory guide for digital markets to ensure fair engagement on online platforms.
Strengthening Cooperation with Korea
The agenda also features a high-level bilateral meeting with the Korea Fair Trade Commission, attended by its chairman and senior officials. Discussions will focus on:
- Future cooperation opportunities.
- Strategic insights on digital market competition.
- Joint technical studies and regulatory initiatives.

The Saudi delegation will further participate in a specialized workshop on digital markets, organized by the OECD Regional Centre for Competition (Policy Support Centre) on September 4–5. On the sidelines, a bilateral meeting with the centre’s management will explore avenues to enhance coordination and share institutional expertise.
Reinforcing Saudi Arabia’s Global Role
GAC emphasized that this international engagement reflects the Kingdom’s progress in shaping a modern, competitive market environment. It also reaffirms Saudi Arabia’s commitment to strengthening its global presence in competition forums and contributing to the development of digital market regulatory policies, cementing its role as an active international partner.
