French Parliament Suspends Session Over Gaza Images

The French National Assembly suspended one of its session last week after MP Aymeric Caron displayed images of children killed in Gaza. Speaker Yael Braun-Pivet abruptly halted proceedings, stating, “You do not have the floor. The session is suspended,” and vowed to address the incident formally.

Lawmaker Condemns “Barbarity” in Gaza

Caron accused Israel of transforming Gaza into a “concentration camp.” He claimed Israeli forces deployed “barbarity” resembling “genocide,” citing over 20,000 child deaths. “Recent history shows no comparable sadism,” he asserted.

The lawmaker detailed atrocities, alleging children faced burning, dismemberment, and amputations without anesthesia. “Palestinian lives matter less here—their deaths are mere approximations,” Caron charged.

Accusations of Complicity in Gaza Crisis

Caron condemned allies of Israeli PM Netanyahu, accusing them of spreading far-right propaganda and shielding Israel from criticism. “Your silence makes you accomplices,” he stated, highlighting double standards in valuing Palestinian lives.

Following his speech, Caron and fellow party members displayed the images of children killed in Gaza, including Bisan Al-Hindi. Bisan lost her life in her sleep after a bomb struck her tent. “Like our children, they have names, they have faces, they had lives to live,” Caron concluded, stressing that these images represent their “guilty conscience.”
