Foster + Partners, a British firm, will lead the construction of the world’s tallest skyscraper in Riyadh, a 2 km high tower, double the height of the current record holder. This was reported by “Architects Journal” and seen by Al Arabiya Business.
The new building will be more than double the height of Dubai’s 828-metre Burj Khalifa, which was completed in 2010.
According to AJ’s sources, SOM and several other international design firms were also competing for the mega project, situated near King Salman International Airport.
Fosters is managing a significant expansion of the airport, having won a separate competition for the 57-square-kilometer project late 2022. The firm now oversees operations at least three airports in Saudi Arabia.
The proposed skyscraper in Riyadh will be four times taller than Fosters’ current tallest project, the 423-meter-tall JPMorgan Chase global headquarters in New York.
Riyadh’s current tallest building is the Public Investment Fund Tower in King Abdullah Financial Center, standing at 385 meters. It was designed by HOK and Omraniya.
The city will also soon be home to the Cube Tower, a 400-meter-tall cube-shaped skyscraper designed by Atkins and described as the largest “inner-city building in the world.” The 2 million square meter building is scheduled to rise northwest of Riyadh and include offices, homes and entertainment spaces.
The proposed two-kilometer-tall skyscraper in Riyadh embodies a bold vision for architecture and urban development.
Furthermore, Foster + Partners is set to redefine skyscraper design with this ambitious project, showcasing human innovation.
