Eastern Region Makes Bold Strides Towards Vegetation Expansion, Anti-Desertification
The Eastern Region Municipality has showed remarkable success during 2024 in its pursuit towards vegetation expansion and anti-desertification, Arab News reported.
The green initiatives successfully planted climate-appropriate trees and flowers to fight industrial pollution and promote air quality.
Meanwhile the municipality adhered to scientific afforestation guidelines and controls to fulfill the goals of environmental sustainability.
In 2024, the Eastern Province launched 87 initiatives boasting over 1,200 volunteers across 60 parks. For example, the officials planted approximately 680,000 trees and shrubs at the Dammam Corniche waterfront and its walking trails. Moreover, they cultivated more than 7.7 million flowers. Therefore, the green coverage expanded by 205,000 sq. meters.
They also carried out extensive projects to rehabilitate streets and other spaces with the installation of 200 pumps and irrigation networks covering 30 km of streets.
As for the park investment program, four parks are already under investment management and other 400 parks dedicated to future opportunities.
The municipality stressed the significance of the collaborative nature of the project noting the effective participation of community members, government bodies and the private sector companies.
It is worth mentioning that the project boasts an inclusive approach designed to create a lasting environmental consciousness and ensure the transformation of sustainability practices into future generations.
