Saudi Arabia Intensifies Support for Syria’s Healthcare System

Saudi Arabia has launched a robust humanitarian campaign to support Syria’s healthcare sector. The Kingdom’s air bridge delivered 730 tons of food, medical supplies, and shelter materials to Syria. Simultaneously, KSrelief announced that over 3,000 Saudi medical professionals joined the “Amal” (Hope) program to address Syria’s healthcare needs.

Amal Program: A Beacon of Hope for Syria

The Amal program focuses on over 20 medical specialties, including pediatric surgery, orthopedics, and psychological support. Volunteer medical staff will deploy to Syria after field assessments of healthcare facilities. A Saudi delegation, alongside Syrian health officials, is evaluating hospitals to identify urgent needs for staff, equipment, and supplies.

A Saudi land convoy recently crossed the Jordan-Syria border, delivering heavy medical equipment like MRI machines, X-ray devices, and CT scanners. The convoy also transported essential medications, including antibiotics and surgical supplies, to support hospitals nationwide110. KSrelief’s spokesperson, Dr. Samer Al-Jutaili, emphasized that these efforts aim to stabilize Syria’s healthcare and food security sectors.

Field Assessments Highlight Urgent Needs

KSrelief teams, accompanied by Syrian health officials, assessed over ten hospitals, including the University Children’s Hospital in Damascus. These visits aim to identify gaps in healthcare infrastructure and ensure equitable access to medical services116.

The Kingdom’s aid efforts reflect its dedication to supporting Syria’s transition to stability. Dr. Al-Jutaili noted that the initiatives aim to help Syria achieve an early recovery phase. Saudi Arabia has already delivered $856 million in aid to Syria since 2011, underscoring its long-term commitment1016.
