As Saudi Arabia is making steady progress in positioning itself as a global fashion hub, the Kingdom is hosting “Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams” exhibition at the Saudi National Museum in Riyadh.
Running from November 21, 2024 to April 2, 2025, the world-class haute couture exhibition is bringing the legacy of the legendary French Dior fashion house to the heart of Saudi Arabia to immerse fashion enthusiasts in awe-inspiring stylish shows, as part of Riyadh Season 2024.
Reviving Dior’s Legacy
The Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams exhibition is a celebration of more than 75 years of haute couture heritage, bringing life to the legacy of the renowned French designer. Carefully curated by the esteemed fashion historian, Florence Müller, and designed by scenographer, Nathalie Crinière, the exhibition takes visitors in an impressive journey through the creative designs of the House of Dior since its inception.
The Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams exhibition showcases over 500 iconic pieces from Dior’s archive, including dresses, accessories, perfumes and original documents. Visitors can delve into the visionary work of Christian Dior, the renowned French designer who made a revolution in the world of fashion by combining elegance, femininity, art and passion in creative and modern designs.
Designer of Dreams in Saudi Arabia
Following successful debuts in Paris, London, Tokyo and Brooklyn, the Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams exhibition has landed in Riyadh, in a brand-new fashion experience that cater to the needs of Saudi audiences. In the light of this, Müller, the exhibition’s curator, said that the flagship event includes several new elements that feature for the first time.
Speaking to Women’s Wear Daily (WWD), she said: “Each global venue offers a new chapter in the Dior story, but what makes Riyadh unique is how we’re incorporating elements that have never been exhibited before.” She explained that the exhibition has been collecting unique pieces from auctions, paving the way for enhancing its vibrancy and telling new stories.
AlUla: A Source of Inspiration
The charming natural landscapes of Saudi Arabia served as a source of inspiration for Dior’s Designer of Dreams exhibition. AlUla, in particular, is a standout feature in the exhibition. It is a wonderful desert oasis located in the Madinah Region, northwest of Saudi Arabia.
The ancient city boasts a rich history and cultural heritage dating back thousands of years ago. It is home to Hegra, an ancient city rich of Nabatean landmarks and Saudi Arabia’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site.
AlUla also includes many magnificent geological formations and fascinating natural landscapes. It has been recognized as the first International Dark Sky Park in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), offering a unique location for stargazing and meditation.
Desert Beauty
Celebrating the majesty of AlUla, the Designer of Dreams exhibition features the Desert Beauty room, displaying Dior’s passion for nature and his connection to Earth through a Middle Eastern lens. On this matter, Müller said: “The room acts as a realistic depiction of the AlUla cliff, featuring dresses that symbolize the evolution of light in the desert.”
The Desert Beauty room showcases dresses that demonstrate the natural beauty of AlUla’s desert with designs inspired by the hues of orange, red and yellow, reflecting the change in the Sun’s golden rays as they pass over the sand dunes of AlUla cliff in an artistic scene.
Bridging Cultures
The exhibition features an innovative architectural design that depicts the stunning landscapes of AlUla, creating an immersive atmosphere that take visitors to the heart of Arabia. On this occasion, Nathalie Crinière, the exhibition’s scenographer, noted that the spaces provided by the Saudi National Museum allowed them to set up dramatic environments and captivating encounters that bring sand cliffs indoors.
“Construction began in September due to the ambitious nature of our structures,” she said. The outcome of this innovative work is an exhilarating experience that blends insights into the House of Dior’s history with amazing experiences that imitate Saudi Arabia’s warm environments.
In addition to celebrating fashion heritage, the Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams exhibition serves as a platform for cultural communication. With regards to this, Müller said: “This is a dialogue between European haute couture and Middle Eastern cultural traditions. It’s about showing how fashion can transcend borders while honoring local heritage.”

As part of Riyadh Season 2024, the exhibition offers a variety of experiences for more sophistication and luxury. Visitors can enjoy their time in the Dior Café, a luxurious destination featuring couture-inspired surroundings, offering a variety of treats and drinks for fashion enthusiasts.
Furthermore, the Designer of Dreams exhibition includes a gift shop that displays a select collection of exclusive souvenirs, from which visitors can bring pieces of Dior home for a memorable experience.

Earlier in November, Riyadh Season hosted the 1001 Seasons of Eli Saab, a magical fashion event which brought an array of world-renowned stars, such as Celine Dion, Halle Berry and Camilla Cabello.
