Crown Prince Launches Urban Plan for City of Qiddiya

Mohammed bin Salman, the Crown Prince, Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia  launched on Thursday the urban plan for the city of Qiddiya and its global trade brand.

He explained that Qiddiya will, in the near future, become the most prominent in the world in the field of entertainment, sports and culture.

This will reflect positively on the Saudi economy and its international position. It will strengthen the strategy of Riyadh and contribute to the growth of its economy to become one of the 10 largest economies of cities He also added that this qualitative investment in “Qiddiya” is one of the pillars of Vision 2030, which aims to diversify the sources of income of the local economy and create thousands of job opportunities for ambitious youth.
Qiddiya, one of the major projects of the Public Investment Fund, is an essential source of support for Saudi Arabia’s touristic and economic goals. In addition, it will improve the quality of life for residents and visitors. It will contribute to attracting local, regional and international investors, which will support the city of Riyadh. Work on the project has already begun, by funneling approximately 10 billion Saudi riyals in construction projects.

Importance of Play

 

The Qiddiya brand adopts the concept of play, based on the results of decades-long research. This research proved that play is a vital element for human cognitive development and emotional expression. It also helps with enhancing social skills, creativity, and physical health.

Studies have also proven the positive effects of recreational activities on society and their ability to eliminate differences between individuals and enhance the level of  social cohesion.

Qiddiya aims to provide enjoyable experiences in the fields of entertainment, sports and culture. It will consist of 60,000 buildings on an area of 360 square kilometers. These buildings will house more than 600,000 people, creating more than 325,000 quality job opportunities. Thus, it will achieve an increase in the gross domestic product by about 135%. It aims to receive 48 million visits annually thanks to its inclusion of world-class landmarks and tourist places.
