AlUla’s dramatic landscapes take on a different character after sunset, when vast desert horizons meet a star-filled sky.
A New Perspective on AlUla
From November 6-15, the AlUla Skies Festival will invite visitors to experience this compelling landscape through hot-air balloon flights, stargazing, outdoor cinema and wellness experiences.
This year’s program is timed to coincide with some of the season’s most favorable conditions for observing the stars.
As AlUla continues to expand its nature-based and experiential tourism offering, the 10-day festival invites visitors to reconnect with the night sky while discovering the oasis from entirely new perspectives.
What Happens When the Moon Disappears?
Remarkably, this year’s festival dates are closely aligned with the lunar cycle, with moonless skies anticipated from November 7-12, including the new moon on November 9.
The festival, part of the AlUla Moments calendar, will also conclude during the Leonid meteor shower, with up to 20 meteors an hour potentially visible under favorable conditions.
A View Worth Rising For
More boldly, AlUla Skyris stands out as one of the festival’s most distinctive ways to experience the oasis, lifting 30 hot-air balloons above Hegra as the sun rises over its ancient landscape.

The approximately 60-minute flights run daily, offering a quiet vantage point over AlUla’s fascinating terrain, with selected hotels serving as pick-up points alongside additional locations arranged by the festival. The experience welcomes guests aged six and above.
Ready to See Balloons in a New Light?
For those looking for a shorter introduction to ballooning, tethered ascents offer a gentler experience while keeping visitors close to the spectacle.
As night falls, the experience shifts from flight to spectacle, with Hot Air Balloon Glow Shows lighting up Hegra on November 6-7 and Elephant Rock on November 13-14 through illuminated balloons, projections, music, fire performances and aerial acts.
The Quiet Side of AlUla
As evening settles over the oasis, the festival’s program shifts toward quieter encounters with AlUla’s nightscape.
Telescope-led stargazing at AlUla Fort, hikes beneath the stars and VOX Moonlight Cinema at Our Habitas AlUla offer amazing ways to experience the destination after dark.
Enriching the festival’s momentum, the upcoming edition will introduce a new dimension of wellbeing through Sunset Stillness on November 13-14, bringing together guided meditation, sound immersion and breathwork in a setting shaped by AlUla’s natural surroundings.
What Makes November the Perfect Time to Look Up?
November also brings a more temperate setting to AlUla, with daytime temperatures in AlUla averaging around 25-28°C before falling to around 9-15°C after dark.
The shift from the festival’s April 2025 edition to November in 2026 is equally significant, placing this year’s edition closer to key celestial events, including the new moon and the Leonid meteor shower.
At a broader level, the program also expands its nighttime offering with telescope-led stargazing at AlUla Fort and the introduction of Sunset Stillness wellness sessions.
