In the light of the accelerating developments of events which threaten the security of Arab borders and the existence of peoples, the Arab Summit becomes a summit of turbulent reality and a summit of urgent need and necessity.
Cairo Summit
On March 4, 2025, an Arab Summit will convene in Cairo, in an extraordinary complex and sensitive circumstances dictated by the hostile calculations of foreign powers and exploitative foreign interests that put to risk the territorial integrity and border security of several states in the Middle East.
Furthermore, the Arab Summit comes amid the desecration of the Islamic and Christian holy sites in the West Bank and plotting against the Arab presence there. Thus, it is an emergency summit that comes at a critical juncture in the region’s history, in light of the unprecedented hostile and aggressive circumstances.
Decisive Outcomes
It is a summit of key causes towards which silence is not wisdom, patience is not a virtue, and inaction is not dignity. It is a summit of confrontation against the arrogance of Israel and its insistence on war, displacement and the liquidation of the Palestinian cause.
Therefore, the Arab public opinion expects outcomes that are up to the serious challenges, including issuing decisive resolutions that solidify a firm Arab position on the inherent and non-negotiable Arab right.
Reconstruction Plans
The Arab Summit in Cairo comes on the heels of a consultative meeting between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, Egypt and Jordan.
The positions of some Arab countries make clear that their role in reconstruction without displacement is hinged on having a political say in Gaza’s future; i.e. whoever assumes the responsibility of reconstruction should be the decision maker.
Meanwhile, another group confirms that they will not get involved in rebuilding something that they know will be destroyed again.
Unified Arab Position
There must be a clear and unified Arab stance on the US President Donald Trump’s plan. Trump is waiting for an alternative Arab proposal for his plan, which involves the forced displacement of Gaza’s people and resettling them elsewhere after he gave Israel the greenlight to pressure the enclave with poverty, hunger, genocide and scorched-earth policy.
In the light of this, Saudi Arabia remains an influential diplomatic, political and religious heavyweight, with its positions that underscore Arab unity and depth. The Kingdom is the guarantor of a consistent Arab position that rejects forced displacement and promotes political solution as the only guarantee to regional peace and stability.
Shaping Gaza’s Future
Reality necessitates a collective and unified Arab position in the face of the far-right rule; a position that demonstrates the goal of the recent Arab moves which aim to confront the claims of Israel by stressing the rejection of attempts to resettle Palestinians outside Gaza and the West Bank, and supporting the two-state solution.
This position can involve a plan that guarantees rebuilding Gaza without moving its people out. This will need mobilizing capabilities and financial resources to start building and rehabilitating the enclave, hence refuting the claim that Gaza has become unlivable. It is an Arab Summit designed to develop a roadmap for the future of Gaza.
