Bahrain strongly condemned Iranian drone attacks on its territory early Saturday, according to a Foreign Ministry statement carried by Bahrain News Agency (BNA).
The Bahraini Foreign Ministry said the attacks constituted a blatant violation of its sovereignty, a flagrant threat to the safety of citizens and residents, and a stark breach of international norms and conventions that prohibit targeting civilian objects and terrorizing innocent populations.
The statement stressed that Bahrain reserves its full, legitimate right to defend its sovereignty, security, and stability in accordance with international law.
Iran announced on Saturday it had hit targets linked to US forces, without identifying the targets or their locations, according to Iranian state news agency IRNA.
The Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy said that the strikes were in response to US attacks against Iran’s coastal areas, warning that any future attacks would draw “a broader response.”
US Central Command (CENTCOM) said on Friday its forces had targeted Iranian missile and drone storage sites and coastal radar locations following an Iranian attack on a cargo ship exiting the Strait of Hormuz along the Omani coast.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry condemned the US airstrikes as a “blatant violation” of the first clause of the recently signed Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to end the war, vowing to “defend the country’s sovereignty, security, and national interests with all its strength.”
