Ahmad Al-Khowaiter, Executive Vice President of Technology and Innovation at Saudi Aramco, emphasized the deepening link between artificial intelligence and the energy sector, noting that AI data centers rely heavily on energy while AI technologies can significantly improve energy production and delivery.
Speaking at the Adopt AI Grand Palais summit in Paris, Al-Khowaiter highlighted Aramco’s strong relationships with French companies and announced plans to open a new Aramco Ventures office in Paris.
He also drew attention to Aramco’s collaboration with Pasqal, a leading quantum computing firm, which resulted in the installation of the Kingdom’s first quantum computer for industrial use at Aramco’s Dhahran headquarters. The initiative aims to build regional expertise in quantum computing and accelerate its application in energy and materials science.
Al-Khowaiter noted that data centers consumed roughly 415 terawatt-hours of electricity last year—about the same as France’s total consumption—and warned that this demand could double by 2030. As global energy needs rise, AI will play an increasingly vital role in improving production efficiency.

Discussing Aramco’s AI strategy, he said, “We operate one of the most powerful supercomputers in the Middle East and have access to over 90 years of data.” He added that more than 400 AI use cases have been identified across Aramco’s operations, boosting efficiency and safety. In 2024, Aramco generated $4 billion in value from technology, with nearly half attributed to AI-driven solutions.
