American Veto Prevents Security Council from Granting Palestine Full UN Membership
The UN Security Council failed to adopt a draft resolution granting Palestine full membership in the United Nations after the United States used its veto power.
The draft resolution submitted by Algeria, which “recommends the General Assembly to accept the State of Palestine as a member of the United Nations,” was supported by 12 members and opposed by the United States, while Britain and Switzerland abstained from voting.
The Israeli occupation continues its aggression against the Gaza Strip, on land, sea and air, since the seventh of last October, leaving more than 33 thousand martyrs, the majority of whom are children and women. More than 75 thousand injuries, an infinite toll, and thousands of victims are still under the rubble and on the roads. The occupation prevents ambulance and civil defense crews from reaching them.
The civilian population in the occupied Palestinian territories, including the Gaza Strip, the West Bank and East Jerusalem, is subjected to serious violations of international humanitarian law by Israeli forces. Reports indicate the bombing of civilian homes, the destruction of civilian infrastructure and facilities, and the use of various types of weapons. The arms used by Israel forces include the internationally banned ones such as cluster bombs and white phosphorus, resulting in huge losses in civilian.
