The UN Security Council will convene on Sunday after Israel asked for condemnation of Iran’s attack and designation of the Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organization. The meeting is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET (2000 GMT), as per a late Saturday release, according to Reuters.
Israel’s UN ambassador, Gilad Erdan, urged the council president in a Saturday letter to call for the emergency meeting.
“Iran’s attack poses a grave threat to global peace and security. I urge the Council to take decisive action against Iran,” Erdan posted on X. Iran’s unprecedented direct attack on Israeli territory with explosive drones and missiles on Saturday risks significant escalation, with the United States reaffirming unwavering support for Israel.
