The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Entertainment Authority (GEA), Turki Al-Sheikh, topped ESPN’s list as the most influential figures in mixed martial arts and professional wrestling.
“These rankings were prepared with the participation of more than 30 prominent figures in the field, including players, promoters, executives, managers, and media professionals. The evaluation was based on several key factors, including the ability to influence through decision-making, access to necessary funding to support deals, the ability to impact the market, as well as the ability to change the sports landscape simply by being present.
Al-Sheikh has managed to exert a significant influence in the worlds of boxing, mixed martial arts, and professional wrestling. His impact has been particularly notable in boxing, where he revitalized the heavyweight division by providing the necessary financial support and promotion to organize major events in this prestigious category, all as part of the Riyadh Season activities.
Al Sheikh’s influence is evident in his support for tomorrow’s UFC event at “The Sphere” in Las Vegas. He also organized the first UFC event in Saudi Arabia last summer and plans another for next year. Additionally, he was key in bringing WWE to the Kingdom, with a ten-year agreement signed in 2018 for several major annual events.
