The Museums Commission inaugurated the “Two Swords and a Palm: Archive of the Saudi Emblem” exhibition at Al-Masmak Palace Museum in Riyadh on Saturday. The event drew intellectuals, researchers, and enthusiasts of Saudi history and visual arts.
Running until November 21, 2025, the exhibition takes visitors on a journey tracing the evolution of the national emblem from 1932 to its modern form — combining authenticity with innovation.
Significance of Al-Masmak Palace
Al-Masmak Palace was chosen as the venue due to its deep historical symbolism. The site is linked to the recapture of Riyadh in 1902 by King Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman Al Saud, a pivotal moment that marked the beginning of the Kingdom’s unification.
Located in the heart of Riyadh, the palace preserves the spirit of the nation’s early years. Today, it serves as a national museum welcoming local and international visitors, narrating the founding story of modern Saudi Arabia through its halls and collections.

Historical Value
The exhibition is built on extensive research conducted with historians and design specialists. It presents the national emblem not just as a decorative symbol on official documents, but as a profound marker of identity rooted in Saudi cultural heritage.
Visitors can explore original documents, rare archival pieces, and artistic works that showcase how the emblem has transformed over decades.
The exhibition also features interactive experiences including visual displays and animated films. These elements allow guests to engage with the emblem’s historical journey while appreciating its enduring role as a unifying national icon.

Preserving National Identity
The Museums Commission emphasized that the event reflects its mission to safeguard cultural heritage and promote awareness of the importance of national symbols.
Moreover, the emblem of the two swords and palm tree, the commission noted, represents more than a fixed design — it is a living record of the Kingdom’s aspirations and history across generations.

Saudi Vision 2030
The exhibition supports the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, which highlights the role of national heritage in shaping the Kingdom’s present and future. By transforming Al-Masmak Palace into a dynamic cultural hub, the exhibition contributes to attracting visitors and enriching public knowledge.

In addition to its main displays, the exhibition includes workshops and activities for different age groups. Finally, these programs aim to connect younger and older generations with their history, strengthen their appreciation of the national emblem, and deepen their understanding of its place in Saudi memory.
