Artificial Intelligence Is Not “Job Loss” — It Is Reshaping of the Market

By: Eng. Mohamed El-Baz

Artificial intelligence is no longer merely a supporting tool within organizations; it has become a core force reshaping the global labor market. With its ability to increase productivity and reduce costs, AI’s impact is now clearly visible in job structures worldwide, fueling widespread debate about its connection to the recent waves of layoffs across major global corporations.

Global estimates indicate that artificial intelligence could affect approximately 92 million jobs worldwide. At the same time, it is expected to create nearly 170 million new jobs in emerging fields. This suggests that the current transformation is not primarily about job elimination, but rather about job redistribution and a fundamental shift in the nature of work.

The Future Benefits of Artificial Intelligence for Students

AI transformation

Over the past two years, major technology companies have increasingly linked workforce reduction decisions to their AI transformation strategies.

  • Amazon announced the reduction of thousands of administrative roles as part of a restructuring process driven by automation and artificial intelligence.
  • Meta continued large-scale layoffs under what Mark Zuckerberg described as the “Year of Efficiency,” with a strategic focus on smaller teams that rely more heavily on intelligent technologies.
  • Microsoft, IBM, Oracle, and Salesforce adopted similar approaches, eliminating or merging traditional roles in favor of operating models that are more dependent on AI-driven systems.

AI Transformation: The Key for the Future-Ready Business

Notably, this shift toward AI-centric operating models has not been driven by declining business performance. Rather, it reflects a strategic pursuit of higher efficiency, reduced reliance on traditional administrative roles, and the formation of leaner teams capable of delivering stronger performance through intelligent technologies.

It is important to note that not all jobs are affected equally. Administrative and office-based roles that depend heavily on routine, repetitive tasks are the most vulnerable to reduction. In contrast, demand continues to grow for roles that require analytical, technical, and creative skills, such as data analysis, AI engineering, and complex systems management. This trend has prompted some technology companies to scale back hiring of new graduates in traditional fields while prioritizing advanced expertise directly linked to artificial intelligence.

Accordingly, artificial intelligence should not be viewed simply as a driver of “job loss,” but as a force that reshapes the labor market. It eliminates routine tasks while creating new opportunities in advanced domains such as cybersecurity, intelligent systems design, and big data analytics. Companies that succeed in this environment will be those that view AI as an enabler rather than a replacement for human talent.

To manage this transformation effectively, organizations must focus on the following:

  • Employee reskilling and upskilling:
Instead of relying on layoffs as an initial response, companies should invest in developing their existing workforce to align with AI-driven requirements.
  • The “Human + AI” model:
Roles that combine human creativity with the analytical and operational capabilities of artificial intelligence will be more resilient than those that depend solely on either element.
  • Supportive public policies:
Governments and institutions must keep pace with this transformation by promoting vocational training, technical education, and targeted support for the groups most affected by workforce transitions.

Ultimately, artificial intelligence is redefining the global employment landscape. It does not signal the end of human work, but rather the beginning of a new phase that demands adaptive skills, strategic planning, and the integration of human potential alongside advanced technologies.
