Digital transformation is dramatically changing how people interact with government services across Saudi Arabia, adding greater flexibility and convenience to everyday administrative procedures.
Expanding Digital Access
Reflecting this momentum, the Saudi General Directorate of Passports has unveiled the services that can be easily accessed through electronic authorization via Absher.
The service allows users to digitally authorize another person to complete eligible procedures on their behalf, creating a more flexible approach to managing passport and residency matters.
Through Absher Individuals, users can also review their issued authorizations and cancel them whenever necessary.
Making Essential Procedures More Accessible
The electronic authorization service covers an exceptional selection of essential procedures. Among them are issuing and canceling travel permits for dependents, reporting lost or damaged passports, and issuing or renewing iqamas for expatriates.
More broadly, it allows authorized users to receive printed iqama copies and manage exit and re-entry visas, as well as final exit visas.
The scope of the service also covers reporting lost iqamas, reporting lost passports belonging to expatriates, reporting absconding workers, and adding or removing dependents.
In doing so, the service brings multiple administrative processes together through a single digital channel.
A Broader Portfolio of Government Services
The range of electronic authorization options goes beyond visas and residency permits, spanning several other administrative procedures. Among the available services are transferring a dependent’s status as head of household, changing professions, transferring services, and transferring information.
More tellingly, users can also authorize others to extend visit visas, issue or renew passports, and receive passports.
The list further involves registering a “left and not returned” status, authorizing resident services, and checking previous passports, offering broader digital access to essential procedures.
This expanded range strengthens the role of electronic authorization as a practical digital channel for handling diverse administrative procedures through Absher.
Eligibility Comes First
Before issuing an electronic authorization, users must ensure that their identification documents meet the required conditions. The national identity card or iqama must be valid for the authorization to be processed.
The eligibility requirements also apply to both parties involved. Depending on the type of service, neither party should have violations recorded against them or financial restrictions that could affect the authorization.
