Nobel Laureate Yaghi Praises Crown Prince’s Support for Science

Saudi scientist Professor Omar Yaghi, recipient of the 2025 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, has expressed his deep gratitude and appreciation to the Saudi leadership for its steadfast support of the Kingdom’s research, development, and innovation ecosystem, and for its encouragement of scientists and researchers across all fields.

Professor Yaghi conveyed his sincere thanks to His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince, Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Supreme Committee for Research, Development, and Innovation, for his continuous support throughout Yaghi’s scientific career — support that played a pivotal role in achieving this prestigious recognition for the Kingdom under Vision 2030.

He also extended his appreciation to the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) for its sustained support over the years through the KACST–UC Berkeley Center of Excellence.

Professor Yaghi described receiving the Nobel Prize as a profound honor, not only for himself but for all Saudi and Arab scientists worldwide. He also expressed hope that this achievement would inspire and empower the next generation of Saudi and Arab youth to pursue excellence in research and innovation.

A pioneer in the field of chemistry, Professor Yaghi is the founder of reticular chemistry, one of the most influential scientific breakthroughs of the 21st century, with wide-ranging applications in energy, environmental sustainability, water desalination, and carbon capture. Finally, his groundbreaking contributions earned him the Nobel Prize in Chemistry, making him the first Saudi scientist to receive this historic distinction.
