Saudi Arabia strongly condemned the terrorist attack on a Greek Orthodox church in the Syrian capital that killed at least 20 people, according to the Saudi Press Agency.
The Saudi Foreign Ministry expressed the Kingdom’s firm stance against any attacks targeting places of worship and the intimidation of innocent civilians.
Saudi Arabia also sent its sincerest condolences to the family of the victims and the Syrian government.
The attack targeted Mar Elias Church in Damascus, on June 22, killing at least 20 people and injuring 52.
Syria’s Ministry of Interior Affairs told CNN that the incident was carried out by a suicide bomber affiliated with a terrorist organization.

The ministry also clarified that the bomber opened fire on people and then detonated himself using an explosive vest.
“An explosion occurred at the entrance of the church, resulting in the deaths of numerous martyrs and causing injuries to many others who were inside the church or in its immediate vicinity,” the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch said in a statement.
After the attack, there were dead bodies, blood, significant destruction, and shattered glass and broken chairs inside the church, according to some videos circulating on Syrian social media.
“We offer our prayers for the repose of the souls of the martyrs, for the healing of the wounded, and for the consolation of our grieving faithful. We reaffirm our unwavering commitment to our faith and, through that steadfastness, our rejection of all fear and intimidation,” the church said.
