King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam has received 15 rubber-tired gantry (RTG) cranes on two ships to boost the ports infrastructure in Saudi Arabia, reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
Represented by the port’s strategic partner, the Saudi Global Ports (SGP) company, which operates the port’s container terminals, King Abdulaziz Port is currently accelerating efforts to align with the ambitious goals of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy (NTLS).
This achievement is part of the port’s transformative journey towards a sustainable, globally competitive center in accordance with the commercial concession contracts signed between SGP and the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani).
The Significance of the Modern Cranes
King Abdulaziz Port is characterized by 43 fully serviced and equipped berths and a handling capacity of up to 105 million tons of goods and containers.
Furthermore, the port features advanced equipment, various specialized stations, and modern tools empowering the port to handle several types of cargo.
The modern cranes have several competitive advantages that will surely make a difference in the port’s operations, as follows:
- Supporting the Kingdom’s port system
- Strengthening the Kingdom’s growing status in the global logistics services chain
- Fostering the capabilities of King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam.
National Transport and Logistics Strategy (NTLS)
The fundamental goal of NTLS is to enhance the Kingdom’s position as a global logistics hub connecting the three continents.
Launched by the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, NTLS aims at revolutionizing the transportation system throughout the Kingdom.
The strategy has adopted several governance models to align the transportation sector with the global economy and the Saudi Vision 2030.
