Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) has unveiled a new directive for all carriers operating across the Kingdom’s airports, revising the rules that govern the transport of portable chargers (power banks) and electronic devices on board aircraft, according to the Saudi Gazette.
Under the updated rules, the in-flight recharging of portable power banks has been strictly banned for both passengers and cabin crew throughout the duration of the flight.
The regulations also limit the use of power banks to cabin baggage only, permitting them to be carried in the aircraft cabin while strictly banning their placement in checked luggage.
Moreover, each passenger can only bring up to two portable chargers on board.
As an added precautionary safety measure, the GACA also advised passengers not to use power banks to recharge electronic devices during flights.
The authority stated that the new measures align with the safety standards of the international civil aviation set by the International Civil Aviation Organization, designed to further boost overall aviation safety and security.
