Iran’s Head of the Health Ministry’s Public Relations and Information Center, Hossein Kermanpour, stated that nothing “serious” occurred in the case of the Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei following his hospital admission after the outbreak of Iran War, according to Al Arabiya English.
No Serious Injuries
Kermanpour affirmed that his injuries were not of a nature that would cause facial disfigurement, disability, or the loss of a limb.
These remarks, carried by Iran’s semi-official ISNA news agency, seek to downplay earlier concerns about the health conditions of the new Supreme Leader.
“Several stitches were applied to the injuries. One of the areas that doctors decided to stitch immediately was his leg,” Kermanpour added.
Khamenei was wounded in the opening-day strikes of the Middle East war that killed his father and predecessor Ali Khamenei.
Since his appointment, the new Supreme Leader has been seen only issuing written statements, with no public appearances.
Recent Meeting
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said he has recently met Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, marking the first public account since the new Supreme Leader has remained out of sight after being reported injured.
War in Iran
On February 28, the United States and Israel launched strikes on Iran, targeting its leadership and triggering a new conflict in the Middle East.
Iran has been responding with a retaliatory counterattack in Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi as a retaliatory move, while launching barrages of missiles and drones toward Israel.
The conflict has spread across the Middle East, leaving thousands dead, triggering unprecedented disruptions to energy supplies especially after the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
The adversaries remain locked in a standoff over the Strait of Hormuz, as Iran tightens its control over maritime traffic while the United States continues to enforce a blockade on Iranian ports.
