3 Tankers Allegedly Hit by Drone Attacks in Black Sea, Shipping Agency Reports

Three tankers were reportedly targeted in drone attacks in the Black Sea on Thursday near Türkiye’s northern coastline, according to shipping agency Tribeca.
The tanker James II, sailing under the Palau flag and traveling without cargo, was about 50 miles (80 kilometers) north of the Turkeli area when the incident occurred, the agency said.
Two other tankers, Altura and Velora, both operating under the Sierra Leone flag and also in ballast, were reportedly attacked nearby while conducting a ship-to-ship transfer operation.
Tribeca said coastal safety boats were dispatched to assist, adding that all crew members aboard the vessels were safe and unharmed.
Russia and Ukraine have repeatedly targeted each other’s ports and maritime assets since Moscow launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine more than four years ago. Neither side immediately claimed responsibility for the reported attacks.
Türkiye’s transport ministry was unavailable for immediate comment because of the Eid holiday.
