AlUla Wins Best Sustainable Pavilion Award at Arabian Travel Market 2024

AlUla Pavilion won the Best Sustainable Pavilion award at the Arabian Travel Market currently being held in Dubai, which includes 2,844 participating pavilions. The award reflects AlUla’s commitment to applying the highest standards of sustainability which is highlighted by the innovative design of its pavilion participating in the event.

The environmentally friendly pavilion, labeled “Green AlUla Initiative 2024,” embodies AlUla’s approach, stressing the significance of even small efforts in building a more sustainable future.

The luxury heritage destination utilized eco-friendly materials like wood and recycled metal from local suppliers for the pavilion. Energy-efficient lighting and advanced waste management systems were also employed, significantly reducing environmental impact while meeting sustainability standards.

The pavilion also features the use of digital content instead of paper materials, in addition to many reusable parts such as furniture, frames, and steel floors. In addition, the reusable parts of the pavilion can be collected in one transportation platform. It contributes to reducing the carbon rate resulting from transportation. Eco-friendly measures also included the use of environmental paint and MDF panels that do not contain added formaldehyde.

Rami Al-Muallem, Vice President of the Tourism Destination Management and Marketing Sector at the Royal Commission for AlUla, said: “Our pavilion in the Arabian Travel Market 2024 exhibition achieved widespread positive feedback, and our commitment to achieving sustainability standards is not limited to this pavilion, but is reflected through innovative initiatives, such as The Sharaan Reserve afforestation initiative and our comprehensive carbon offset programme.”

“We aim to inspire all members of society to contribute to preserving the environment, and this award comes directly after the launch of our first global brand campaign, “Renewed through Time”, which reflects the essence of sustainability in AlUla.”

AlUla has pledged to offset all emissions linked to the Arabian Travel Market 2024. This includes emissions from pavilion construction, employee air travel to Dubai, and various activities. Collaborating with ClimeCo, AlUla implemented these compensations before the exhibition began, showcasing its proactive environmental leadership.

AlUla prioritizes sustainable building practices in all Royal Commission projects, adhering to strict green building certification standards. This ensures architectural development in AlUla balances modern standards with environmental responsibility, showcasing innovative and sustainable development.
