Weqaya: When Should A Person Be Isolated?

The Saudi Public Health Authority “Weqaya” confirmed that there are 4 cases that require isolation when some symptoms appear on students, as well as teachers. These symptoms include fever, respiratory symptoms (cough or shortness of breath), digestive system symptoms (abdominal pain, diarrhea, or Vomiting) and skin rash.

Weqaya indicated that if the school is concerned about the possibility of an outbreak of an infectious disease, it must communicate according to the mechanism of communicating and reporting infectious cases in schools to get advice and support.

The authority noted that if the situation requires representatives of the Ministry of Health in the region taking any preventive measure, there will be coordination at the school health affairs level in the region and school.

How Does the Infection Spread?

The authority explained that there are 6 ways for the infection to spread, including secretions and waste from the digestive system, such as infectious diarrhea, gastroenteritis, and hepatitis A virus.

The respiratory system (nasal and mouth secretions), such as colds and influenza or direct contact like touching skin, toys and other body fluids, such as fungal skin infections like herpes, scabies, and chicken pox (stingles) can also spread the infection.

Besides direct contact, indirect contact can also spread the infection, such as touching surfaces or objects such as pencils, napkins, dirty clothes, and contaminated tableware.

Finally, contact with blood infected with hepatitis B virus, hepatitis C virus, and HIV virus (AIDS), or by consuming contaminated food or water, such as food poisoning may  contribute to spreading the infection.
