UN Session Discusses Efforts to Empower Women in Saudi Arabia
The UN session on Thursday underscored the endeavors towards empowering women in Saudi Arabia and enhancing female economic involvement, reported Arab News.
Maimoonah Al-Khalil is the secretary-general of the Saudi Family Affairs Council. She addressed the 68th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women in New York. Moreover, she shed light on the Kingdom’s initiatives to provide equal opportunities for women in Saudi Arabia.
Al-Khalil emphasized that empowering women forms a fundamental pillar of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030. The country’s leadership acknowledged that enhancing the pivotal role of women is essential to achieve sustainable development and prosperity goals.
Al-Khalil commended the Saudi government’s policies and actions aimed at advancing women’s development across various sectors of society.
“My government has pursued the development of comprehensive national plans aimed at advancing women and ensuring their full and effective participation in economic activities,” said Al-Khalil.
Moreover, Al-Khalil noted the Kingdom’s significant advancements in global indices. For example, Saudi Arabia ascended 17 places in the World Giving Index. Moreover, it ascended 16 places in the helping a stranger index.
“The World Bank has praised the Kingdom as the first country in the Middle East to establish a social safety net aimed at activating and empowering all segments of society, while fostering entrepreneurial and productive initiatives,” she added.
