UAE Strongly Condemns Attacks Targeting Embassy in Damascus

The Emirati Foreign Ministry said on Saturday that the UAE has condemned recent attacks targeting its embassy and the residence of its mission chief in the Syrian capital, Damascus, according to Arab News.

“The United Arab Emirates expresses its strongest condemnation and denunciation of the riots, acts of vandalism, and attacks that targeted our mission’s headquarters and the residence of the head of mission in the Syrian capital, Damascus,” read a statement carried on WAM News Agency.

The statement also expressed the UAE’s “rejection and condemnation of the unacceptable affronts directed at the nation’s symbols.”

It also urged the Syrian authorities to take all necessary measures to ensure the security of the UAE embassy and the safety of its personnel, while launching a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attacks.

This incident came at a crucial time as security concerns in the Middle East are mounting after the United States and Israel launched strikes on Iran on February 28, targeting its leadership and triggering a new conflict in the Middle East. These strikes have killed Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and top security and defense officials in the country.

Iran has been responding with a retaliatory counterattack in Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi as a retaliatory move, while launching barrages of missiles and drones toward Israel.

The conflict has spread across the Middle East, leaving thousands dead, triggering unprecedented disruptions to energy supplies especially after the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
