The Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU) and General Hotel Management Ltd (GHM) have launched The Chedi Hegra. This groundbreaking project redefines luxury tourism in AlUla, Saudi Arabia’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site. Located within the ancient Nabataean site of Hegra, the hotel combines rich history, modern comfort, and cultural immersion.
The property is Saudi Arabia’s first seven-star hotel, offering a unique experience of history and luxury. Guests can enjoy 35 bespoke guest rooms that seamlessly integrate with the surrounding natural landscape. The rooms incorporate historical structures, such as the Hegra railway station, blending cultural heritage with contemporary design.

Commitment to Sustainability and Job Creation
The Chedi Hegra prioritizes sustainability, aligning with RCU’s Sustainability Charter for AlUla. The project ensures minimal environmental impact by using local materials and sustainable practices. The hotel’s development also aims to boost the local economy by creating at least 120 jobs in the region.
Gaps in the historic masonry were restored using lime-based materials to preserve the site’s integrity. Modern plumbing and electrical systems were added within the original stone walls. Earthen buildings on-site were transformed into luxurious spa and gym facilities.
Culinary Experiences and Exclusive Amenities
Guests can indulge in three distinct dining experiences, each offering a unique blend of history and cuisine. Prima Classe, housed in the former Hegra railway station, features a fine dining experience alongside a heritage exhibition. The Fort Restaurant is within Hegra Fort’s historic walls, while The Water Basin Restaurant offers breathtaking views of Hegra’s landscape.
The Chedi Spa provides six treatment rooms, two hydrothermal rooms, and two post-treatment areas. Additional amenities include a fitness center and a pool, housed in transformed mudbrick villas.
Immersive Experiences, Cultural Enrichment
From the moment guests arrive, The Chedi Hegra offers an immersive experience showcasing AlUla’s unique character. Welcome drinks reflect local traditions, and bespoke in-room amenities include local dates and nuts. The hotel also features a Saudi Coffee House, where guests can learn about this cultural staple.
Outside the hotel, curated experiences allow visitors to explore wildlife reserves, enjoy traditional falcon shows, or join Bedouin expeditions. These activities foster a deeper connection to AlUla’s cultural and natural heritage.
A Vision for Authentic Luxury
Axel Jarosch, RCU’s Vice President of Hotels & Resorts, described The Chedi Hegra as a model of authentic luxury. He emphasized its alignment with the Journey Through Time masterplan, which celebrates AlUla’s history and culture.
Mahmoud Sakr, General Manager at The Chedi Hegra, highlighted the hotel’s vision. “Our goal is to offer visitors a retreat where they can explore Hegra’s wonders and experience unmatched hospitality,” he said.
As The Chedi Hegra opens its doors, it invites global travelers to experience a seamless blend of history, luxury, and sustainability. Guests can embark on a journey through time, surrounded by AlUla’s awe-inspiring landscapes and world-class hospitality.
