Syria, ATO Sign Program to Boost Tourism, Investment

The Syrian Ministry of Tourism and the Arab Tourism Organization (ATO) signed a new executive program yesterday at the ATO headquarters in Jeddah. The agreement—formalized by Syrian Minister of Tourism Mazen Al-Salhani and ATO President Dr. Bandar Al-Fahad—aims to advance Syria’s tourism sector, attract sustainable investment, and raise overall service quality.

The program outlines a shared vision for a comprehensive tourism strategy built around several key pillars. Investment initiatives include attracting investors through guarantee policies and showcasing major opportunities at regional and international forums. Capacity-building efforts will draw on ATO training programs to enhance Syrian tourism skills, support the creation of a tourism academy in Syria, and cooperate on preparing facilities for ISO certification. Moreover, promotion and research components focus on conducting studies to increase Arab tourism to Syria and using national tourism data to inform future investments.

Al-Salhani highlighted the significance of the agreement, noting that the Syrian government has recently signed contracts and memoranda of understanding worth about $1.5 billion in tourism investments. These projects cover the development of existing facilities, the construction of hotels, resorts, and entertainment cities, and the revitalization of historical sites. The plans also integrate traditional crafts and industries to strengthen the cultural identity of these destinations.
